EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR UPDATE... Winter
2009
Bob Anderson
Winter is here already? By the time this gets to you, we
will have been through Christmas and the New Years celebrations. We
sincerely hope that all is well with everyone; these are tough times
for more than just a few of us. The future looks good for the NCVA,
our membership has leveled out after three years of decline. We are
still down, but the efforts of the Board and some active duty folks,
have helped us level out. thanks to everyone who is helping. See Ken
Cadran's article on page 19.
The membership selected Louisville, Kentucky as our
reunion location for 2011. Louisville, like Chattanooga, is located
about day's drive from many points in the U.S. The host will be
Roger Huck and I'm sure we will hear much about that area in
coming months.
The 2009 directory will have a new feature: a
pull‑out NCVA Ships Store catalog (in color) for your
convenience. About two‑thirds of the membership is now "on
line" and will be able to access the catalog on the NCVA website.
For those who are not "on‑line" this new feature in
the directory will ensure that all members will know what is available
in the Ships Store.
We have had some trouble with the fall CRYPTOLOG
mailings. John Gustafson sent out a request via the internet
requesting members let us know if they have not received the Fall
issue. It appears the main area of concern is right here in our own
back yard. One of the zip codes in the Pensacola area was apparently
skipped in the labeling process. If you did not get the fall issue,
hang on, we are working on it.
This (and the Spring) issue, have a SCHOLARSHIP
APPLICATION for 2009. [see page 15 ‑ Ed.] There will be three
award winners this year ‑ Each for $1000.00. Remember that
applications must be post marked not later than 30 June 2009 to be
considered.
Just as a heads up ‑ Dave Fiehtner, our site
selection guru, has visited the Phoenix/Tucson area and has indicated
there will be presentations for a reunion in that area at the Portland
reunion in September.
Finally, Bob Payne made a visit to Pensacola to
discuss CRYPTOLOG issues. It was the coldest and rainiest days of the
year during his visit but we still played golf. Ironically, it snowed
in Texas while he visited with us in Florida so at least it wasn't
a complete bust.
Cheers, have a great New Year and think Portland in
September 2009.
