FAQ 0006

How do I log-in when I'm never given the opportunity to enter my user name or password?

Problems have arisen with individuals trying to log in to NCVA LimDis or the NID with the Internet Explorer browser. When clicking on a link requires a Log-in, a pop up window asking for a User Name and Password does not appear. Instead the following Log on failed message appears:

"This server could not verify that you are authorized to access...etc.".

This problem results from the browser, Internet Explorer, remembering a User Name and Password that was used to log in to another web site or attempting to perform an Anonymous logon. If either the "Automatic logon with current username and password" or "Anonymous logon" are selected as "User Authentication" logon methods, you will not be offered the opportunity to enter your personal user name and password.

In the Internet Explorer menu go to Tools --> Internet Options. The Internet Options window will open. Select the Security tab and then select the Internet with a single click. Click on the Custom level Button. The Security Settings window will open. Scroll to the bottom of this window and under the heading User Authentication make sure that 'Automatic logon with username and password' is deselected. (Recommend: "Automatic logon only in Intranet zone".) IE Security Settings
