FAQ 0009

Can I control the number of messages I receive from one of my Yahoo Groups?

Yes - Yahoo offers four methods of email delivery and provides you with the ability to control the method of Message Delivery used by each group on an individual basis. Each method will impact the quantity of messages you receive from a group's server.

Individual Emails

Messages are delivered one at a time, as they are sent, to the email address you have chosen to use for each group. Attachments are sent as links and are archived on the group's server. To view or save an attachment you’ll need to remember your Yahoo ID and its associated password. This is the best method to choose for low message volume groups, or when you need to or want to receive messages in a timely manner.

Daily Digest

A single message is delivered once daily that contains all the traffic for the previous 24 hours. This is a good selection if you want to reduce the quantity of messages received, yet still be able to read them using your own email program. Again email attachments are delivered as links that will require you to sign in to your Yahoo account if you want to view or save the attachment.

Special Notices

This option is similar to No Email (see below) as you will only receive specially marked messages sent by an Owner/Moderator of the group. You will not receive any standard messages sent to the group. All messages are archived on the group’s server and you can use your Yahoo account to look at the archives anytime you have access to the web. A nice advantage of web access is the ability to review the messages by thread (Group by Topic).

No Email

This option stops all email delivery from the group server. You access the messages and attachments by visiting each group via your web browser. This is a very good option to select prior to going on vacation and then switch‑back to your regularly desired method of delivery upon return. It is also the best method if you are concerned about traffic volumes into your email account.

Follow these steps to modify the method of email delivery:
  • Go online to My Groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups and "Sign In" with your Yahoo ID and password.
  • Click Edit My Groups (upper left‑hand area above your listed groups)
  • Select your desired method of Message Delivery for each group you belong to
  • When you have finished making your selections, click Save Changes
