NRT-0032 Hackers plant virus on CDC's web site:

Computer hackers tapped into a web site at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last week, planting a virus that has possibly infected computers used by people who visited the site. CDC's podcast site, http://www.cdc.gov/podcasts, which contains audio and video on a variety of public health topics, has reportedly been taken down for at least a few days. There is no evidence that sensitive information has been compromised in any way, said agency officials; however, it IS POSSIBLE that computers used by visitors to CDC's site may have been infected with a computer virus. The CDC did not have any information about the nature of the virus, but recommended that users who visited the site on the morning of 01FEB - the same day as the incident was discovered - should ensure their computer has been scanned for viruses. "As a precaution, CDC has removed the podcast site and we anticipate the site will be down for the next few days," the agency said. The CDC estimates that there were "several hundred" visits to the podcast site that day. Since CDC launched its podcast web site in July, it has reportedly received 40,000 visits.
