NRT-0144 New Worm Variant Spreads via SKYPE Network:
A new variant of the Warezov/Stration worm is using the SKYPE network to spread, according to two security firms. The variant was dubbed "Skypezov" by Finland-based security firm F-Secure three weeks ago. The malware uses SKYPE to attempt to con its users into clicking a link, "Check up this", which causes anyt one of a small family of infected files to be installed. The infected files have a number of purposes, including emailing the criminals using a connection to a Yahoo mail server to confirm infection and opening backdoors on the user's computer. Although the SMTP Yahoo element of the malware appears not to function correctly, the malware is still able to harness a user's SKYPE contacts in attempts to propagate.
