NRT-0240 Worm Exploits impending "Harry Potter" Novel to Attack Fans.:
The new W32/Hairy-A worm, which has reportedly infected computers worldwide, is disguising itself as a copy of JK Rowling's final novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Once in the user's system, the virus copies itself onto attached USB memory drives so it can spread to other users. A file called "HarryPotter- TeDeathlyHallows.doc" found on infected computers contains the message: "Harry Potter is dead." The worm also reportedly creates new users named after the main characters in Rowling's books, and changes the homepage of infected PCs to an Amazon.com page selling a book entitled Harry PUtter and the Chamber of Cheesecakes. Users have been advised to disable the auto-run feature of Windows so removable devices do not automatically launch when attached to a PC.
