NRT-0411 Canadian Troops Warned Not to Post on Facebook:
Canadian soldiers were advised by the Canadian Defense Department not to post personal photos and
information on social networking web sites like Facebook, according to an online Canadian news
source. The advisory was circulated in a memo that warned soldiers not to appear in uniform in
online photos and not to disclose their military connections. "Al-Qa'ida operatives are monitoring
Facebook and other social networking sites," the memo said, adding, "the information can be used to
target members for further exploitation. It also opens the door for your families and friends to
become potential targets as well."
