NRT-0605 FCC warns regulatory fee payers of phishing message
scam:
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has received
complaints that non‑government entities may be using Internet Web sites to
misdirect parties seeking to submit their regulatory fee payments, according to
an online press report. The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is
warning businesses to be on the lookout for a new phishing scam that is
impersonating the FCC's regulatory fee payment system.
The complaints allege that non‑government Web sites are
attempting to dupe companies into handing over financial details through bogus
regulatory payments. The phishing message claims to be from the FCC and solicits
fees through its online regulatory fee payment option. The user is redirected to
a phishing Web site which harvests financial information.
