NRT-0609 New malware‑carrying spam offers link to video of candidate:
Internet monitoring firms have detected a massive spam
campaign that lures potential victims with a link purported to contain salacious
video content of presidential candidate Barack Obama, according to an online
press report. Internet users who follow the link are shown a 14‑second
video, while malicious applications are being installed on the victim's
machine, according to Internet‑monitoring company Websense.
The malware consists of a Trojan that allows remote control of
the user's computer using an application called 809.exe in the user's
Temporary Internet Files folder. The Trojan also installs a Browser Helper
Object that steals keystrokes and forwards them to a server controlled by the
malware distributors.
